Antique Oak Furniture Absolutely Beautiful With Sturdiness

Antique oak furniture is absolutely beautiful. It offers a sheen and a sturdiness that can't be found anywhere else. The patina of age that it imparts brings visions of a more graceful time when things were simpler, which is perhaps, one reason why antique oak furnishings are so very popular today.

The sale of antiques is on a rise these days. Nearly everyone wants to do their home with antiques of some kind, but many aren't sure exactly how to care for them and in their efforts to clean or polish their new-old furniture, they can inadvertently damage it.

One of the major benefits of antique oak furniture is the absolute strength that it offers. In reality, solid oak furniture had to withstand some serious use over the time it has been in existence. Oak is renowned for the strength and endurance, with most old oak pieces having lived through daily household use and multiple children for years.

The reality of it is that your oak will withstand another fifty years of use and will remain as beautiful as it was the day that you bought it if you take just a little extra care to treat it kindly and care for it adequately.

Antique oak furniture should not ever be cleaned using a commercial polish or spray furniture polish. Using a very soft cloth that has been saturated with all purpose glass cleaner will be the best way to actively clean dirt from the surface.

Polish your antique oak furniture using a soft cotton cloth and paste wax. This really only needs to be done about two times a year. Other than that, polishing with a soft cloth and removing the dust completely will keep it looking good and in the best shape.

If you get slight water marks on your antique oak furniture you can remove them using a mixture of two very odd things. Mix together Vaseline and wood ashes to make a thick pasty substance. Use a soft cloth and rub in a circular way to work the paste into the antique oak furniture in order to remove the white glass or water mark from your furniture. Clean it off with water and polish with a soft cloth to complete the process.

If you have any burn marks in the furniture that you purchase you can also remove those if you carefully use a very fine grade of steel wool and a surgical scalpel. Take a very thin strip of the burn at a time using the scalpel and then polish the resultant area with the steel wool, not going outside of the burned area. Fill the small hole that is left with a mixture of linseed oil and an oil paint to get the required color.

Your antique oak furniture can provide you with years of sturdy wear and keep that gorgeous look that it had when you purchased it. All it requires is a little extra care and some attention to the kind of products that you use to clean it.
