Keep the "Shine" With The Proper wax for Your Furniture

When you purchase furniture it is a big ticket item.  Because you are sinking a lot of money into that purchase you want to be sure that you are properly caring for your furniture.  By taking proper care of your furniture you can ensure that it will stay looking great for years to come.  But how do you do that?  The truth is that there are a variety of different furniture care products on the market, and that can make it difficult to select the right one for your needs.  However, one of the most popular choices has been furniture wax.

Furniture wax is popular for a variety of reasons.  Generally people like to use furniture wax because it is easy to apply and the sheen that it gives your furniture is beautiful to look at.  However, you need to be careful because over the years wax can start to build up.  As those coats start to add up you may find that the color and grain of your furniture starts to show signs of wear and tear.  In some instances this is not a bad thing.  For example, if you like the worn finish of antique pieces you may like how your furniture starts to look through the years.  However, if you do not like this look you will want to be careful of which furniture wax varieties you choose to use.

For example, silicon waxes are rather finicky, and should be used carefully.  If you are looking for a warm finish a silicone wax is not going to give it to you.  Instead, you will end up with a finish that has quite a bit more sparkle to it.  If you are looking for a warm finish you will want to look at more traditional furniture wax options.  Traditionally these waxes will have natural ingredients like beeswax and carnauba.  However, you must be aware that from the moment that you apply a furniture wax to a surface you have committed to treating it with wax.  Of course you can strip it, but there will always be some remnants of wax on the piece of furniture that you had treated.

So what type of furniture should you use furniture wax on?  You want to choose pieces that do not receive a lot of wear and tear.  For example, if you have decorative pieces like carvings or hallway furniture it is perfect to use wax on.  Generally you would refrain from using furniture wax on the outside of drawers and cabinets because they will receive a lot of use, but you can certainly use furniture wax on the interior of these to ensure that the wood is being properly cared for.

There are other options available when it comes to caring for your furniture besides furniture wax, but if you are looking for a tried and true method wax is certainly it.  For centuries wax has been used to keep furniture looking great, and for the right purpose it can be just the product that you have been looking for.
